Leisure time activities

Helsinki Youth Department provides a wide range of possibilities to be active on your leisure time. There are outdoor activities, hobbies, non-formal education, summer camps and a lot of other options for young people between 13 and 25 years old.

The Youth Department of the Helsinki City offers you many different activities.

There are more than hundred different hobbies and activities run by the different units of the Youth Department, which can help you to spend your leisure time in many interesting and thrilling ways.

The Youth Department supports the activities of youth organizations and groups in many different ways including cash grants, use of premises and equipment as well as the services of a copying and layout office. For organizations and groups of young people there is also lending centre for AV and camp equipment as well as The Young People’s Nature House´s Wempaimisto.

The youth services are located all over Helsinki and there you can turn to trained youth workers on any matter. The equipment of the youth centres varies from rehearsal rooms for bands to cafés and access to the internet. You can discover and explore hobbies like break dance, skateboarding or participate in art courses. Of course, you can or simply meet other youngsters and chill with them!

  

Most of the information of leisure time possibilities of Helsinki City youth Department is produced in Finnish, but you can probably join anyway. Of course, you are welcome to contact the Youth Information Centre Kompassi if you need help to find a youth centre or any other leisure time activity. In Kompassi you will also find information about events and other happenings in Helsinki.

The services of the youth department (youth activity centres, community centres) are open to youngsters mainly under the age of 18 years. To be able to use these services you have to get the membership card of the Youth Department.  The membership card is free of charge for year 2009 and valid for one calendar year.
